The Walthour Legacy

Matt Walthour has owned the Island Bike Shop on Marco Island since 1997 and Naples Bike Shop since 2002, He credits a lot of the shop’s success to the island’s network of in-road bike lanes and shared-use paths and his overall passion for all things bicycle.

Cycling is in Matt Walthour’s blood. It goes back to his great-grandfather, Bobby Walthour, a Multiple World Champion, his Grandfather Bobby Walthour Jr, who was a multiple Six- Day cycling Champion and also a few accomplished cousins in the cycling world.

“When people ask me why I don’t race,” Walthour says, “I tell them it’s usually a lot easier to fix them than to ride them. But, bicycling has pretty much been my life. I’ve been a lucky kid.”

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Island Bike Shop has always treated me very fair. I’ve brought a couple bikes to them over the past few years that were giving me problems. They informed me the issues and were honest enough to tell me in each case, the bike wasn’t worth putting any significant money into. On top of that, they didn’t even charge me! That is why I fully trust them and go back whenever I have an issue. They have done other repairs for me in the past that I am happy to pay for.

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We’ve used island Bike Shop for a couple of years now and they are the best. I reserve our bikes online a few weeks before we come down. When we arrive in Marco at our condo the bikes and accessories are there waiting for us. I often get the delivery text while driving from the airport! And on the last day I get the text that the bikes have been picked up from our condo. The teens love having the freedom to ride for ice cream or mini golf or breakfast on their own. I love the ease of use! Highly recommend them!

Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent experience! Bikes arrived on time. We also had an incident with a flat tire and they quickly replaced the bike by bringing us a new bike to our rental. Our family(mom, dad and 2 boys ages 7 and 9) had such a fun time riding around Marco! Definitely renting bikes again next year from Island Bike Shop!!
